Jek language

Cek,〔(Н. МАРР : "Яфетические языки", Большая сов. энциклопедия, 1-е изд., т. 65, Москва : Сов. Энц., 1931, стр. 841. )〕 also known as Jek, Dzhek, is a Northeast Caucasian language spoken by about 1,500 to 11,000 people in the villages of Jek in the mountains of northern Azerbaijan.〔(Tərxan Paşazadə, "Dünyanın nadir etnik qrupu – Azərbaycan cekliləri", Azərbaycan qəzeti )〕 Belongs to the Samurian division of the northwest branch of the Caucasic language family〔Wixman, Ronald. (''The Peoples of the USSR: An Ethnographic Handbook'' ). New York: M.E. Sharpe and London, Macmillan. 1984.〕
Jek language is not a written language and Azeri serves as the literary language of the Jek, as well as all Shahdagh peoples.〔
==Official claims==
It is often classified as a dialect of Kryts, even though Jek is different enough from Kryts that it could be considered a separate language.〔(Ethnologue entry for Kryts )〕
